Packing our bags again …

Lake Eyre Status May 2016
Lake Eyre Yacht Club’s current “lake status”. (I hope this isn’t infringing copyright).

To all our faithful followers … just a warning that we are heading off again this weekend, so you should see new post notifications appearing in your in-boxes soon (depending, of course, one when we have internet connection, which won’t be always). It’s another short trip, this time to visit Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre, bookended by the lovely city of Adelaide. This has been a fairly sudden decision, made because there’s water in the Lake again. We hope to see water (duh), birds and, perhaps, flowers, along with the lovely colours and patterns of the outback (or, is it the inland?)

Lake Eyre’s anglo name is for the explorer Edward John Eyre who was apparently the first white man to see it – in 1840. Its indigenous name, Kati Thanda, was appended to the front of the anglo name in 2012, something I’ve only just learnt. Gradually, our natural landforms and landmarks are being returned to their original names. Love it. Not only are these names prettier, but more importantly, this renaming shows proper respect for the people who know and belong to the land. In the case of Kati Thanda that’s the Arabana People.

Now, back to us! Not being 4WD-Camping people we have decided to try an organised tour, using Outback Spirit. Our simple itinerary is available on our Itineraries Page.
